Music in the EYFS
Music ignites all areas of child development and provides skills of school readiness, including intellectual skills, social-emotional development, motor skills and language development. It helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. For children and adults, music helps strengthen memory skills.
In addition to the developmental benefits, simply put: music bring us happiness.
At St Pius X, Music is a key integrated part of our teaching in the Early Years Classes. We use it to support all of our topics alongside daily use of songs and actions in Phonics. In addition to group opportunities we thrive to give every child the opportunity for solo performances to build their confidence. Below are just some of the Musical experiences we have gotten up to in Nursery and Reception.
