History Curriculum Intent Statement
At St. Pius X we believe in a broad and balanced curriculum. Our ambitious History curriculum fulfills the National Curriculum requirements and we use a mix of Twinkl Plan It and our own teacher-developed units to deliver the objectives. We have created a long-term plan using a selection of medium-term plans available to match our curriculum needs and to ensure History is coherently planned, sequenced and has rigorous progression to enable children to reach their full potential as historians and gain the knowledge and skills required through an enquiry based learning approach to allow pupils to succeed in life. Our skills progression allows teaching and learning of history to be easily adapted to meet the needs of all our pupils. History has meaningful links to other subjects such as Reading, Writing, Geography and Art and Design. As a Catholic school, our faith underpins our key teachings and pupils learn the importance of the history of our local area, including our own school and church.

Assessment
At St Pius X we use Socrative and Kapow to assess our children's key knowledge and skills. Socrative is used to identify Gaps throughout a unit of work. From here, we can plan revisiting lessons and future Socrative quizzes to address these gaps. We use the Kapow assessment framework art the end of each unit, staff will assess each child against the year group assessment criteria. We can then analyse our date from the percentages given. Assessment is monitored through learning walks and book dips which are carried out by the subject lead.
