Welcome to Reception

 Autumn 2025

Our Reception children have had a wonderful first term at school. They have settled well into their classroom, built positive relationships with their teachers, and made many new friends. The children enjoyed exploring ice during the cold weather and learning about the world around them. They also had a fantastic trip to Grizedale Forest, where they took part in the Gruffalo trail and explored the outdoors. We ended the term with a wonderful performance of the Nativity.

Summer 2025

During our final summer term in Reception, we had a wonderful time learning all about life under the sea and exploring places around the world. We enjoyed diving into poetry with Monkey Babies and Five Little Owls, using our imaginations to bring the words to life through songs, actions, and creative activities. The children also took part in lots of fun transition activities to help them feel ready and excited for their move up to Year 1. We finished the year with a fantastic trip to Greenlands Farm, where the children had the chance to meet the animals and enjoy some hands-on experiences. It has been a fantastic term full of learning, laughter, and new adventures!

Spring 2025

This term in our Reception classroom has been filled with adventure and creativity! Inspired by the Julia Donaldson story, "What the Ladybird Heard," we created our very own farmyard maps . We embraced our artistic side by making our own playdough to craft lovable monsters for Valentines Day. In maths, we explored quantities through engaging activities, making our learning both fun and interactive. Our term ended with an exciting trip to Milnthorpe Wildlife Oasis, where the children learned about a variety of fascinating animals. We have had so much fun in Reception this term and can't wait to return for more learning. !

Autumn 2024

We have had a great first term in our new Reception class. We have spent our first term getting to know our classrooms, teachers and routines. We had our first school trips of the year when we went to Barrow Library and then to Brockhole on Windermere. At Barrow Library we did a Julia Donaldson themed story time and at Brockhole we learnt more about woodland habitats, linking to our Guided reading text 'The Gruffalo'. We have done lots of outdoor learning this half term and have really enjoyed exploring our outdoor area, whatever the weather! We finished Autumn Term with our school Nativity Play that we performed for all of our family and friends.

We have had a great start to our time in Reception and are looking forward to continuing our learning after Christmas.

Autumn 2023

Autumn 2 is a very busy half term. We've had a nativity, the pantomime, party day, mass and so much more!

We spent a lot of time this half term rehearsing for our big performance of 'Away in a Manger'. The children blew the audience away with their fantastic singing and acting. All the children were amazing! They got up on stage and said their lines with confidence. I was very proud of them all.

We loved our trip to the Pantomime to see Jack and the Beanstalk, oh yes we did! We booed, cheered and laughed all the way through.

In the last week of term we joined the rest of the school for an end of term Mass. We were excited to show the rest of the school how peacefully we say our prayers and how good we're getting at making the sign of the cross. We've been practising a lot since starting Reception learning our school prayers four times a day.

The children have made great progress in the Autumn term and we're excited to see what we will get up to in the Spring!
